Destinations

Uluru, Broome and Darwin by Private Jet

Remote places are where a direct private flight earns its keep: airports, flying times and the seasons to plan around.

A private jet in flight above the clouds on a long sector across the continent

The Red Centre, the Kimberley and the Top End are among the great trips in Australia, and among the hardest to reach. Distances are large, scheduled services are thin and the best parts are a long way from the nearest big airport. That is exactly where a direct private flight earns its keep.

Uluru

Ayers Rock (Connellan) Airport serves Yulara, the resort village for Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, with Uluru a short drive away. The park is managed with its Traditional Owners, the Anangu. A charter lets a group fly direct from Melbourne, Sydney or Perth and fit Uluru around the rest of an itinerary, often with a night in Alice Springs or a flight on to Kings Canyon. See private jet hire Uluru.

Broome and the Kimberley

Broome sits at the edge of the Kimberley, with Cable Beach, the pearling heritage and a growing list of lodges and expedition cruises. The dry season, from roughly May to October, is the busy time. Perth is the natural departure point, at about 2 h 30 min by midsize jet. See private jet hire Broome.

Darwin and the Top End

Darwin is the northern gateway: the base for energy, resources and defence travel, and the start of trips to Kakadu, Litchfield and Arnhem Land. It is also close to Bali, about 1,765 km, which makes it a useful departure point for Asia. Flights are planned around the wet and dry seasons. See private jet hire Darwin.

Seasons

The centre and the north have distinct seasons. In the Red Centre, summer days can be very hot and winter nights cold, so many visitors choose the cooler months. In Broome and the Kimberley, the dry season from roughly May to October is the busy time. In Darwin and the Top End, flights and ground travel are planned around the wet and dry seasons. We tell you what to expect for your dates.

Linking the north and the centre

Because the aircraft goes where you tell it to, a charter can string the remote places together. From Uluru, Darwin is about 1,420 km, around 2 h 10 min by midsize jet, and Broome is about 1 h 55 min. A trip that goes from Melbourne to Uluru, on to Broome and home through Perth is a single quotation with the positioning planned in. No scheduled timetable offers an itinerary like it.

Planning a remote flight

Remote airfields have their own limits, so we check the things that matter before we quote:

  • The runway length and surface against the aircraft you need
  • Fuel and handling at the airfield, and what is available if plans change
  • Seasonal conditions: heat in the centre, and the wet season in the north
  • Where the aircraft can wait or reposition while you are away

The aircraft is chosen for the sector and the airfield rather than for the cabin alone. For the longest legs, a bigger class gives more margin; see when to step up to a heavy or ultra long range jet.

Groups and special occasions

Remote destinations are often group trips: a family celebration, a corporate incentive or a small expedition party. A single aircraft keeps everyone together and takes the luggage with them. See group and sports team charters for how we plan seats, baggage and timing, and private jet to Perth if your trip starts in the west.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport do you use for Uluru?

Ayers Rock (Connellan) Airport, which serves the resort village of Yulara, a short drive from Uluru. Alice Springs Airport is an alternative for itineraries that include Alice Springs and the MacDonnell Ranges.

When is the best time to visit Broome and the Kimberley?

The dry season, from roughly May to October, is the busy time. Tell us your dates and we will say what is available.

Can a light jet reach these places?

Uluru is within reach of a light jet from Melbourne and Sydney at about 3 h 10 min and 3 h 30 min. Darwin and Broome from the south-east are longer, at around 4 h 20 min by midsize jet, so a midsize jet or larger is the sensible minimum.
