How an empty leg arises
- An aircraft flies a client from its home base to a destination.
- It then flies, empty, to pick up its next client (a positioning flight).
- It flies that client to their destination.
- It flies, empty, back to base.
Each of those empty sectors is an empty leg. If your trip happens to match one, you can travel at a better price than a standard charter.
Is an empty leg right for you?
It suits you if
- You can be flexible on the day or time
- You are travelling one way
- You are happy to fly from or to a nearby airport
- You would like private travel at a lower price
Choose a standard charter if
- You must leave at a fixed time
- You need a return trip on the same aircraft
- You are travelling with a large group
- You cannot risk the flight changing
How we help
Tell us the routes you fly and the dates you could travel, and how flexible you are. We will tell you what is available on your route, quote a standard charter alongside it so you can compare, and explain exactly what would change if the flight moved.
Empty leg FAQs
What is an empty leg flight?
An empty leg is a charter flight flown without passengers, usually because the aircraft is repositioning to pick up its next client or to return to its base. The aircraft is flying anyway, so a one-way seat on it can be offered at a lower price than a standard charter.
How much can I save?
It varies by aircraft, route and date. An empty leg can cost considerably less than a standard one-way charter, but we cannot promise a particular figure until we see what is available on your route.
Are empty leg flights certain to go ahead?
No. They depend on the operation of the aircraft, so the times and routes are fixed by it and can change at short notice. If you need certainty, a standard charter is the safer choice, and we can quote both.
Can I choose the time and route?
Only within what the aircraft is doing. Empty legs suit travellers who are flexible on timing and, if possible, on the exact airports.
How do I find out about empty legs?
Tell us the routes and dates you could fly. We will tell you what is available now, and let you know if a suitable flight appears.
