Every private jet trip is quoted for its own aircraft, route and date, so there is no price list to cut from. But the price is not fixed either. These seven choices are the ones that most often move it, and none of them involves a compromise on safety.
1. Be flexible on the day and the time
Aircraft are not where you want them on every day. Moving a flight by a day, or by a few hours, can change which aircraft is closest and how far it has to fly to reach you. Peak dates such as school holidays and major events are in demand and very much subject to continued availability, so a day either side can widen the choice.
2. Choose the smallest aircraft that suits the party
Larger aircraft cost more to fly. A turboprop or light jet costs less than a midsize jet, and a midsize costs less than a heavy jet. On a sector of an hour or two, the smaller aircraft often loses only a few minutes; see turboprop or light jet for short Australian flights and light jet or midsize jet. Do not choose the smallest aircraft if the luggage will not fit; we check that before we quote.
3. Consider an empty leg
An aircraft that is flying without passengers to reposition can offer a one-way seat at a lower price than a standard charter. The trade is flexibility: the route and times are set by the aircraft, and they can change. Read empty leg flights explained and see our empty legs page.
4. Think about the whole trip, not one leg
An aircraft that takes you somewhere usually has to get back. A return trip can be better value per leg than two separate one-ways, and a one-way flight in the direction the aircraft is already going can be better than one against it. Tell us the full plan, including any flexibility on where you return from, and we will price it as a whole.
5. Compare airports
Landing, handling and parking charges differ from airport to airport, and some airports restrict which aircraft can use them. The closest airport is not always the cheapest, and the cheapest is not always the most convenient once the ground transfer is counted. We compare the options for your aircraft; see private jet airports in Australia and the Melbourne airports guide.
6. Watch waiting time and overnights
If the aircraft waits for you, or the crew need to stay overnight, that adds to the cost. A day return is priced differently from a three-day trip. If you will be away for several days, ask us to quote both a waiting aircraft and two separate one-way flights, and compare.
7. Share the aircraft, and book early
The cost of the aircraft is the same whether two or eight people are on board, so it divides well across a party. A larger party may need a bigger aircraft, so we show both options. Booking early gives the widest choice of aircraft, and a wider choice usually means a better match.
A worked comparison
Take two ways of getting a party of four from Melbourne to Hamilton Island and back, over a long weekend. In the first the aircraft is booked for the full weekend, so it waits on the island. In the second there is a one-way flight in on Friday and a separate one-way flight out on Monday, perhaps with a different aircraft. The first is simple. The second can be better value when the waiting time is the larger part of the cost, but only if suitable aircraft are available on both days. We quote both, with the aircraft, the times and what is included, and you choose.
What a good quotation looks like
- It names the aircraft, or the class of aircraft, and the route
- It sets out the date, the time and the number of passengers it carries
- It says what the price includes, and what could change it
- It explains any waiting time, overnight stays or positioning
- It shows the alternative where two options are close
What not to cut
Safety and compliance are not where to save. We arrange flights only on aircraft and crews that meet strict safety standards. A quotation that is much lower than the others deserves a question about what is included.
Where to start
Read what a private jet charter costs for the full list of price drivers, and how it works for what happens after you ask. On the day itself, what happens on the day of a private jet flight explains what to expect. When you are ready, send us the route and the date and we will quote the right aircraft and one clear price.
Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest single saving?
Usually the size of the aircraft and the flexibility of your dates. Choosing the smallest aircraft that suits your party and moving a flight by a day or a few hours are the two changes that most often make a difference.
Does booking early lower the price?
It widens the choice of aircraft, which usually helps. It cannot lower the price of an aircraft that is in demand on a peak date, so on those dates the advantage is availability rather than price.
How do I compare two quotations?
Compare like for like: the aircraft, the route, the date and time, the number of passengers and what is included. If anything could change the price, such as waiting time or a changed route, it should be explained in the quotation.
